Mahony rewarded for Coaching contributions
Robert Mahony, coach of the Northamptonshire Womens County team attended the Edgbaston Test to be rewarded with his Coach of the Year award; this is what he had to say about the day:
“On Thursday 2/08/18 I was fortunate to be invited to receive a ‘Coach of the Year award’ during the 2nd days play at the Edgbaston Test between England and India.
The day was hosted by the ECB in recognition of Coaches who had been nominated by their respected Counties for the work and achievements put in by the coaches at their respective Clubs or Counties.
11 Coaches from different Counties shared a fantastic day, chatting and sharing experiences as well as being treated to seeing Virat Kohli score a magnificent century. We also received a certificate, which was presented on the pitch during the lunch break by Paul Farbrace
The thought of being given the certificate was quite scary in front of a Test Match crowd, and it being shown on the big screens at the ground, but Paul Farbrace was very interested in where we came from and who we coached, and the chat we had was a good distraction from the thought of standing in front of so many people.
I am very lucky to work with a fantastic squad and to have the support of their parents, and of Northants Recreational Cricket and the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, and what the Squad have achieved is a reflection of everyone’s hard work not just my own and I wish everyone concerned in our success could have joined me on the day.
I would especially like to thank Patricia Hankins, and the Northants Womens squad for all their hard work and for having nominated me and whilst the day at the test and the Certificate were a fantastic surprize, the thought that the team appreciate the part I play in what we strive try to achieve, is the best recognition of all and the thing I am most proud of.”
