Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation

Northants Recreational Cricket works with funding generously provided by the Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation to provide an annual cricket coaching program to Schools in the Kettering area. This program, which culminates in a Kwik Cricket festival at the County Ground in the summer, sees boys and girls from between 15 and 20 primary schools participate at Year 5 and 6.

2015 Kwik Cricket tournament

Wednesday 3rd June saw 14 schools participate in the 2015 Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation Kwik Cricket tournament at a sunny County Ground. The format saw the teams, made up of boys and girls from years 5 & 6 who had been receiving coaching from our coaches through the winter, initially compete in 3 groups. The teams topping these groups were all unbeaten, with Wilbartson Primary school incredibly unlucky to miss out on making the final, by virtue of having made fewer runs than eventual finalists Isham Primary School and Geddington Primary School.

The final itself was a tight affair, with Isham scoring 264, and Geddington falling just short on 257. Geddington had actually scored more runs than Isham, but lost too many wickets, the presence of Northamptonshire Under 10’s Hal Robinson and East Northants Under 11’s Joseph Ingham providing valuable experience of match conditions. KOGS Foundation Director Mr Anthony Shemilt presented the Trophy to winners Isham, as well as medals to the individual players involved in the final, as well as Wilbarston, who defeated Mawsley in the 3rd/4th play-off.

All the children involved obviously had great fun, and had cause to thank Mrs Margaret Swann, Clerk to the Trustees of the Foundation who hosted the event, with the assistance of James Mellor and Northants Cricket.
